Spanish fashion brand Desigual has teamed up with Christian Lacroix on a capsule collection for fall, unveiled in Barcelona this week. The line is being billed as Desigual by Monsieur Lacroix, as the French designer is no longer authorized to use his full name since leaving the brand he founded because he lost the rights to use his own name in the bankruptcy meltdown that cost him his couture business. The Barcelona-based company — known for its colorful patchwork looks for women, men and children — said it was made up of some 30 items, including jackets, skirts and lingerie, and would be followed by a larger collection for summer 2012. Lacroix, meanwhile, was in Munich Wednesday doing fittings for “I Capuleti e i Montecchi” (The Capulets and the Montagues), the opera by Vincenzo Bellini. WWD.
We were all waiting or hoping for Lacroix to come back and no one expected it to be through Desigual, the Spanish street wear brand but it isn't something new to see such a big name collaborating with a big mass production company specially that Desigual profit has raised 43% the last year and is opening new shops in new countries.
The collection won't be priced (which is normal as well) like normal Desigual garments' prices But working with a well-known brand — however unnecessarily expensive its clothes may be — isn’t much a consolation prize for a man who wowed the fashion industry with his passionate palate of colors and intellectual references to history and art but at least he is back for the time being. So welcome back Mr. Lacroix.
