Review: Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

I got this serum last year after finishing my bottle of Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair. With all the hype that surrounds this I really wanted to try it, and with it being an overnight repair type serum it seemed a natural replacement for my Estee Lauder as I wanted to try something new.

The serum comes in a rather gorgeous blue glass bottle. The product is well protected from the light in the dark bottle, but you can see the product through, especially when holding the bottle up against a light. I like this as I like being able to know how much I've got left.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a clear oil. For an oil it's very light and spreads easily across the skin. I find it doesn't feel heavy or greasy, so if you have oily skin and find yourself a bit "scared" of oils, this should be a good one to start with.

The Midnight Recovery Concentrate is meant to "replenish the skin with moisture" according to the Kiehl's website. It has 99.8% naturally derived ingredients, is paraben free, fragrance free and mineral oil free. It also "helps to recover radiance by morning". I find the serum absolutely delivers on these claims. In the morning after using this my skin is balanced, glowing, plump and moisturised. With continued use I also feel like my skin gets a bit "healthier" much like the results I saw when using the Advanced Night Repair.

I will say that I didn't find this to be enough during the winter, and have used it only now and then for the last couple of months. After the snow left and spring has arrived I've gone back to using this again more frequently and now I really love it again. What to take from that is that this will probably not be enough for anyone with very dry skin, which is what I have during the colder months. My skin was still on the drier side in the mornings when using this and I didn't find it really worked, at least not as well as it does the rest of the year.

Now that my skin is more normal, though still somewhat dehydrated, this has been fantastic. I've been using it everyday for the last few weeks to write this review, and my skin has been wonderful. No breakouts at all.

I would recommend this to anyone with oily, normal or just a bit dry skin. I think this is a perfect serum for those a bit younger, still in their early twenties, and it would be a perfect first serum for anyone that hasn't used one before. If you are a bit older, or have skin that needs a lot of moisture to feel good, then this isn't going to be enough for you and I would look elsewhere, or make sure to combine it with a very moisturising serum or moisturiser.
